The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
